A military helicopter crashed in Mexico. This is reported by RBC with reference to the local edition of EHA News.
A Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter belonging to the Mexican Navy crashed on takeoff in Hidalgo State. According to the video available to RBC, the helicopter fell due to lack of thrust of the rotor – the machine was able to break off from the ground, gained a height of about 2 meters, turned and collapsed.
Several people were injured, including the Minister of the Interior of Veracruz State, Eric Cisneros. The Governor of the State of Hidalgo, Cuitluan Garcia, reported this on his social media accounts. No deaths were reported.
The destroyed Mi-17 helicopter of the Mexican Navy was chartered by the Mexican government.
The special group was to fly it to the mountainous region to assess the consequences of the hurricane «Grace», which had crossed the territory of Mexico the previous day.
This is not the first Mi-8 helicopter accident (the Mi-17 is an export version of the Mi-8 helicopter) in recent times. On August 12, a Russian helicopter crashed into Kuril Lake. Five people were killed. Another 8 were rescued by local wildlife.
